Passport Free for US Citizens!
As St Croix, St Thomas and St John are US Territories, US citizens do not need a passport when traveling to the US Virgin Islands from the United States. However, since our airports are considered “ports of entry” you will pass through customs on your way home. All travelers need to provide a valid, government-issued picture ID to board flights and return home. In addition, you are required to carry your Birth Certificate with raised seal as proof of citizenship. If you have a passport, we do recommend carrying it for ease of travel. If you plan to visit any of the other Caribbean islands, including the British Virgin Islands, during your trip you will need a passport. Major Airlines
St Croix is just a short 2 1/2 hour flight from Miami and 3 1/2 hours from New York. American Airlines, Delta, and Spirit are the major carriers into St Croix’s Henry Rohlsen Airport (STX). Direct flights are available on American daily via Miami (twice daily in season) and on Delta via Atlanta Wednesday and Saturday. Spirit Airlines offers service to the island via Fort Lauderdale, FL. St Croix is also accessible via San Juan, Puerto Rico via other major carriers like United that often link with smaller regional airlines like Seaborne Airlines and Cape Air.
Inter island connections are available via Seaborne, Cape Air and other smaller regional airlines. St Thomas is just a 25 minute flight away. At this time there is no ferry service between St Thomas and St Croix.
On-island Transportation
Once you arrive on St Croix, a rental car is essential. We drive on the left-hand side in American-style cars. Rental cars can be obtained at the airport but should be reserved in advance. Our airport greeter will meet you (or the first party in your group to arrive) at the airport and lead you to your villa for check-in. If you need taxi transportation upon arrival, please be sure to arrange that directly with Vacation St Croix so that we may ensure you are connected with a driver familiar with the location of your villa.
